Girl Guide makes birthday donation to Claire House

A 9-year-old Girl Guide asked friends and family to donate money to Claire House Children’s Hospice, rather than give her birthday gifts.

Sophie Eardley, who attends the 2nd Willaston Brownies, completed the Claire House Challenge Badge which explores the issue of disability and life-limiting conditions, through fun and exciting activities.

Sophie enjoyed taking part in the badge so much, she took a real interest in wanting to help the children and families that Claire House care for. Therefore, instead of asking for gifts and toys for her ninth birthday, she instead asked for donations to Claire House.

Sophie was able to raise £170 for the hospice, which will help towards caring and supporting seriously and terminally ill children and their families.

To thank Sophie for her donation Claire House mascot Claire Bear visited to the 2nd Willaston Brownies to surprise Sophie and her friends.

Avril Parr, Community Fundraiser at Claire House, said: “At such a young age, I think Sophie is an inspiration for wanting to help and support the children Claire House care for. To raise £170 is fantastic and Sophie should be super proud of herself.

“It’s amazing to see children taking it further and continuing to fundraise after completing The Claire House Challenge Badge.”
