The London Marathon is taking place on Sunday 23rd April, find out Ben’s reasons for running for Claire House, how he’s found training and what he’s most looking forward to.
“Growing up just around the corner from Claire House, I was always touched by the hospice’s work and care for not just the children there, but for their families. Had such a wonderful organization existed in the past, my parents would have made use of their excellent facilities and kind staff for my older brother Michael, who needed constant support and around the clock care as a child. The support that Claire House offers to families with children needing special care is nothing short of life-changing, and I’m extremely proud to be raising money for such a wonderful cause.
“I’ve learnt a lot throughout my training for the London Marathon. Being a keen cyclist and relatively injury free throughout my sporting life, I was surprised at how much recovery time I need when fitting runs in during the week. Resting up is equally as important as getting training done, and finding a measurable balance between the two has been a real challenge for me. That, and discovering a new found appreciation for Jelly Babies as an excellent post-run treat!
“I’m so excited to experience the atmosphere on the day and the feeling of crossing the finish line with thousands of people cheering the runners on! I have been a spectator at the race a few times, enviably watching on as runners put themselves through an extremely demanding challenge. Being part of something so iconic and recognized, and supporting a fantastic cause, is truly a once in a lifetime occasion.”
