Looking to use your skills and expertise to make a difference? Want to help families create precious memories? 

Become a Therapies Support Volunteer and provide ongoing support to our Therapies Team. You’ll assist with a variety of tasks to ensure the team are freed up to focus on their clinical duties.

Tasks will include:

  • Helping to provide fun and therapeutic activities for children
  • Assisting with admin tasks, such as scanning and filing documents
  • To phone consultants to chase letters and confirm treatment plans
  • To assist with booking and confirming appointments for children and their families
  • To facilitate family splash afternoons, including meeting and greeting families, setting up the pool, getting sensory equipment ready, testing the pool and providing refreshments
  • To safely and appropriately communicate at all times with staff, children and families
  • To understand and recognise the scope of their role, especially when working with families directly
  • If appropriate, to assist with the facilitation of therapy-led groups

Attributes and Competencies: 

We’re looking for volunteers with experience of working in a clinical/healthcare setting and who have a knowledge of therapeutic support. An understanding of medical terminology would be useful, but isn’t essential.

For this role, you should be a real team player who is committed to making a difference to the lives of children and young people with complex health needs. You’ll need outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and should be confident using your own initiative. An empathetic manner and a resilient nature are essential. Prospective volunteers should be sensitive and discerning in delicate situations.

This role would be ideal if you are a newly qualified physio who wants to gain some experience in pediatrics.

Time: 2-6pm one day a week (some flexibility), minimum 12-month commitment

Location: Claire House Children’s Hospice, Clatterbridge Road, Bebington, Wirral, CH63 4jD (in-person volunteering)
