We’re looking for an experienced and dedicated volunteer to join our Rapid Response Team. This team help to bring all of the services offered at hospice into the family home and provide hospital support to children and their families.

In this role, you’ll provide ongoing support to our busy nurses and assist with a variety of tasks to ensure the team are freed up to focus on their clinical duties. In doing so, you’ll be helping Claire House to provide the best care possible for families in desperate need.

Tasks may include:

  • Assisting with admin duties, including scanning, taking notes and meeting minutes
  • Helping to prepare equipment boxes
  • Ensuring cars are well-stocked with supplies
  • Helping to keep the office uncluttered
  • Looking out for the team’s wellbeing e.g. providing refreshments
  • Driving to collect parents and making deliveries
  • Shopping for memory making activities
  • Answering the office phone
  • Providing refreshments and meeting and greeting families attending clinic appointments at Claire House Liverpool
  • Being happy to provide general support whenever needed by team

We’re looking for someone who is happy to help and understands tasks may vary depending on the team’s needs. Requiring a time commitment of 2 days a week, this role would be ideal for someone retiring from healthcare who would like to continue making a difference flexibly.

Due to the nature of this role, we’re looking for volunteers who have the below experience, skills and qualifications:

  • Experience of a clinical environment
  • Understanding of hospice care
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to use own initiative and confident working independently
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in admin
  • Effective time management
  • Adequate IT skills
  • Great team working skills
  • Able to work sensitively with those who are vulnerable
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively with people from a range of ethnic, cultural and social groups regardless of gender, age, spiritual or sexual orientation
  • Has a UK driving license and is willing to travel across our catchment area to provide support

Prospective volunteers should have a nurturing nature, a good sense of humor and be friendly, trustworthy and empathetic. Our work can be emotive at times, so it’s important that volunteers can also demonstrate emotional resilience and are able to set strong professional boundaries.

You’ll receive ongoing support from Claire House – including an induction, training, line-management, travel expenses, invitations to team meetings, and development opportunities.

Due to nature of this role and the extensive training required, we are looking for volunteers who are able to make a long-term commitment. Please note that this role will not include providing support to children, personal care tasks or administering medication.
