Are you a fun-loving person? Passionate about working with teenagers and young adults? Looking to fill your Saturdays with something important?
We want volunteers to support our special Social Group, which offers all our teenage and young male adults the opportunity to get involved with activities, events and empower them in doing so. The group provides a sense of community and we’d love volunteers to offer peer support and be positive role models.
Tasks will include:
- befriending our young adults and building positive relationships with them
- leading and facilitating activities with the group – e.g. quizzes, board games, video games
- work with our Young Adult Coordinator and Support Worker on planning sessions (if appropriate)
- provide feedback to the team after each session
- support members of the group with future planning and peer support (if appropriate)
We’re looking for a real people-person who can make friends in any room and has a great sense of fun. A big part of this role will be spending time with our young adults and developing a rapport with them, so you’ll see first-hand the difference you make. It’s a highly interactive role with the potential to gain valuable experience. This role would be well-suited to someone who aims to pursue a career in healthcare and/or supporting young adults.
A friendly, enthusiastic, approachable, empathetic and non-judgmental nature is essential for this role. As you may be asked to lead activities, you should be able to confidentially use your own initiative and be great at thinking on your feet! Experience of supporting young adults and/or facilitating similar activities would be beneficial. We’d also be keen to learn more about your hobbies and passions (e.g. sports, films)!
Please note, due to the nature of the group and the needs of our young adults, we particularly welcome applications from young males aged 18-25.
You’ll need to be available on the first Saturday of each month, between either 10am-2pm or 3-7pm (some flexibility can be offered). The role will be primarily based at Claire House Liverpool (West Derby, L12 9HZ), but may require travel to our Wirral Hospice (Bebington, CH63 4JD).
