During 2019, Claire’s family and friends are trying to raise £40,000 for Claire’s 40th birthday, which will enable Claire House to help reach every child and family who desperately needs our support.

About the campaign….
Claire Cain was eight years old when she suddenly became seriously ill and was diagnosed as having a malignant tumour behind her nose and eye.
The family’s routine changed from having lots of fun on the beach, playing with friends and going to Brownies, to regular hospital visits. Claire underwent months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment.
Even when Claire lost the sight in one eye, her hair and most of her teeth, she kept on smiling and laughing, remaining happy and positive throughout.
Unfortunately, Claire became more poorly as the tumour had grown. Despite undergoing a new type of chemotherapy, Claire died in hospital in July 1989, just a couple of weeks before her 10th birthday. Her mum and dad were at her side.
As a tribute to Claire, her family aimed to raise funds to build a much needed children’s hospice, to help support other families through the tough times.
With the help of the local community, Claire’s family and friends organised lots of fundraising events and raised enough money to open the doors of Claire House Children’s Hospice in December 1998.
Thanks to the Cain family, Claire House now supports over 300 seriously and terminally ill children, helping them live life to the full.
